On Sunday, the third day of the Luxembourgish athletics championships took place.
Bertemes is known to enjoy athletics meetings here in Luxembourg, although yesterday's rain certainly made it more difficult to compete. Nevertheless, the shot-putter from Belvaux managed to convince with his first attempt, scoring 21.38 metres.
Coach Khalid Alqawati was pleased with the performance, noting that especially the first three throws need to be executed to perfection, given that they decide whether or not an athlete makes it to the final round during the Olympic Games.
After the first successful attempt, Bertemes had four invalid throws, before scoring again during his final attempt: 21.23 metres.
In one month's time, Bertemes will be in Tokyo and try to replicate his best performances in the Olympic Games. A month later, Paralympics athlete Tom Habscheid will try to do the same.
