The 3:0 win against city rivals Jeunesse Esch on the final day of the league made the title official.
The national football league has thus come to an end. Before the final game day, Fola and FC Swift Hesperange were joint table leaders. With 63 points in third, F91 Dudelange was technically also still able to grab the title. With the highest goal difference, Fola was still expected to make the race.
The Esch-sur-Alzette derby was a fitting occasion for the closing day of the league. Fola showed desire right from the start, with Diallo and Correia both scoring in the first half of the encounter. In the end, the team of coach Sébastien Grandjean decided the game to their advantage with 3:0 and were crowned champions of the 2020/2021 season. Furthermore, the team thus qualified for the upcoming Champions League qualification rounds.
Swift Hesperange did not manage to win their final encounter against FC Differdange 03 and therefore had no chance of grabbing the title on the last day. F91 Dudelange on the other hand beat RM Hamm Benfica 4:3, which means they overtook Hesperange at the last possible moment and finished the league as runners-up.
Racing FC Union Luxembourg drew 0:0 against FC Progrès Niederkorn and thereby finish on rank four. The team from the capital is thus eligible to participate in the European Conference League, same as Dudelange and Hesperange.
