
Teams of four players representing 29 countries. Two boys and two girls under 16 years old per team came to challenge their skills to make more than 100 European young players on the golf course, about 60 boys and 56 girls.
Team Luxembourg was present with four youngsters from the Junior Luxembourguish team accompanied by team Captain Rick Mohr and coach Douglas McLean.
After three days of enthusiastic and fierce competition, the results for the players coming from the Grand Duchy were, for the boys category, Lenny Mines in 41st place with a total of 232 strokes (+16) and Nicolas Winandy in 49th place with 240 strokes or +24. The overall champion of the tournament was Dutch player Denny Kloeth with 208 strokes — a fantastic 8 under.
In the girls category Emma Lahaije finished in 53rd place with 261 strokes, a total of +45, and Maud Forzy came in 55th place with 262 strokes (+46). The champion of the tournament was Icelandic Perla Sol Sigurbrandsdottir with 214 strokes, 2 under, becoming the first Icelandic girl to win this tournament.
The Nation’s Cup winner was the Czech Republic with 639 strokes 9 under result combined among the best three scores from its players. Luxembourg took the the 27th spot with 729 strokes or +81.
While they didn’t fly back trophies in hand, the four young Luxembourgish players found taking part in the tournament well worth it nonetheless. In the words of Emma, “this was the first time I participated in the Young Masters, the weather was about the same as in Luxembourg, but the golf course was beautiful, in very good shape and challenging. I would love to go back next year because I learnt a lot by being part of my team and at the same time I made new friends and new memories”
