Erling Haaland took a turn at it, and even the then-Crown Prince, now King Haakon, used it to set the rhythm for a special World Cup summer.
The famous "World Cup drum" has now been auctioned off for a good cause, fetching 1.3 million Norwegian kroner from an anonymous bidder, the equivalent of around €123,000.
In all, 32 people placed 277 bids. The World Cup drum, said Knut Petter Gisholt, who oversaw the auction, was unique, as was the story it told.
During the World Cup, it had come to symbolise unity, passion and the magnificent moments shared together.
Through this fundraising campaign, Gisholt said, a new chapter had been added to its story.
The drum was once again bringing people together and inspiring commitment, this time for an important cause. The proceeds will go towards refugee aid.
It was clear, Sebastian Husvik, chairman of the Norwegian fan group, noted, that the drum had been purchased by someone with deep pockets.
He is convinced that the buyer fully appreciates the value of this historic artefact from Norwegian football history.
