
The club has been banned from the Champions league for the next two seasons in a decision made by Uefa. They were also fined €30 million, having been found to mislead European Football’s governing body while breaking financial fair play rules.
Uefa’s financial control body also found them guilty of having falsely inflated sponsorship revenue in making the obligatory submissions to the fair play compliance process. In essence, it was found that funding stated to have come to the club via Etihad had largely come directly from the club’s owner, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, via the company through which he owns the club.
Manchester City have stated that they will appeal against the decision.
