Gerson Rodrigues scored the only goal of the match after 89 minutes.
Should the top country of League C directly qualify for the European Cup, Luxembourg would be facing play-offs.
The first 20 minutes were rather unspectacular. The action was mostly around the midfield and the Red Lions found themselves struggling with a lot of failed passes. But the Luxembourgers pulled it together and managed to get into scoring position for a first time after 29 minutes.
A shot from Danel Sinani was cleared from the goal line by a defender while another short-distance attempt from Gerson Rodrigues only hit the post. Nevertheless, the Red Lions continued keeping the pressure high, but the game remained a goalless draw at half time.
In the second half, Rodrigues broke the deadlock and scored the first goal of the game in minute 61. Unfortunately, the striker had found himself in an off-side position in the build-up to the goal, which is why it was retrospectively cancelled.
The Luxembourgers then struggled to maintain pressure and it took until minute 89 before the score was finally changed to 1:0 thanks to a Rodrigues goal. With 14 goals for the national team, Rodrigues is now head-to-head with Luxembourg’s all-time scoring leader Aurélien Joachim.
Not much happened after the goal and the game ended in a 1:0 win for the Red Lions, who finish the Nations League group C in second place with 11 points.
