Girondins de Bordeaux announced on Wednesday that a takeover deal had been signed with British investment fund Park Bench for the club, which was recently demoted to France’s highest regional division. This agreement is seen as a last-minute effort to prevent the historic club from being declared bankrupt by the courts.

The club confirmed that the transaction was completed for the symbolic sum of one euro – with the new owners agreeing to take on Bordeaux’s debts. The club also stated that the regional control commission of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine football league will review the new owners within the coming days.

For Bordeaux to compete in Régional 1 – the sixth tier of French football – this commission must approve both the change in shareholders and the club’s budget for the 2026/2027 season.

The new ownership group is also expected to present their plans for running the club before the commercial court as part of the restructuring process.
