Benfica Lisbon were crowned Portuguese champions for the 38th time in their history on Saturday, beating relegated Santa Clara 3-0 on the final day. And the celebrations were sumptuous in Luxembourg City.
Thousands of Portuguese fans gathered in the capital’s Gare district to celebrate this national title, their first for four years.
The Lisbon club finished two points clear of FC Porto, who beat Vitoria Guimaraes 3-0.
The celebrations caused some confusion on reddit as well, with one redditor pointing out that it was surreal watching the party unfold.
Portuguese people are the largest emigrated community in Luxembourg.
