Carlo Molinari, the long-serving former president of French football club FC Metz, has died at the age of 93, the club announced on Wednesday.
Molinari first took on the role of club president in 1967, having already played as a youth for the 'Grenats'.
He stepped down in 1978 but returned to lead the club just two years later, marking the beginning of a highly successful era for FC Metz.
Under his leadership, FC Metz achieved several milestones, including their first-ever Coupe de France victory in 1984.
The club also enjoyed a remarkable league campaign in 1998, finishing second in the French top flight, level on points with champions Lens, who claimed the title on goal difference.
Molinari stepped down for the final time in 2009, handing over the presidency to Bernard Serin.
In total, Carlo Molinari spent 34 years at the helm of FC Metz, earning a reputation as one of the most influential figures in the club’s history.
