Dudelange hosted the Azerbaijan team at the Josy Barthel stadium for the second game in the Europa League group phase. Riding high after their last game, in which they won 4-3, the Luxembourg team’s hopes came crashing down against an efficient and focused Qarabag.
The first goal came after just eleven minutes, as Zoubir took advantage of a defensive error to beat Joubert who could have done better to save it. F91 then conceded a second goal by Michel at the half hour mark, which was punctuated by the arrival of a drone in the stadium. The players were made to leave the field for 20 minutes while the drone was removed.
Seven minutes after the game resumed, the visitors were awarded a penalty, dispatched by Almeida. Mendy had a chance for Dudelange shortly before half time, but his shot hit the crossbar.
Things did not pick up for F91 after the break, as Garros received a second yellow and was sent off. Joubert made several saves but Quintana sealed the deal for the visitors with their fourth goal in the 69th minute.
Although Sinani was gifted a chance in the 80th minute, the hosts could not take advantage. Despite a consolation goal by Bernier just before the final whistle, Dudelange left the field in disappointment.
Elsewhere, Gerson Rodrigues took to the field for Dynamo Kiev’s 0-0 draw against FC Lugano. The Luxembourg international was substituted after 70 minutes.
