During Thursday's Men's World Cup super-G event in Bormio, a run-away pup saw his opportunity to be Top Dog!

Race marshals had their work cut out for them when the downhill World Cup race saw an unexpected 4-legged competitor.

The dog, who got loose from its owner, found himself on the steep course of San Pietro mountain. Despite his lack of skis, the dog made impressive work of the Italian slope, slipping and sliding down the mountain. The pooch was cheered on by spectators, competitors and commentators alike.

British former Alpine skier Ed Drake, continued his live commentary from the Eurosport box throughout the entirety of the dog’s run. “He just managed to fly his way down the San Pietro, four-wheel grip not even able to keep the dog on course.”

Unfortunately, the dog was a DNF (did not finish), as he eventually went off-course through a gap in the fence surrounding the piste. While no official time was taken for the canine competitor, the event was paws-ed for just over five minutes while marshals attempted to catch the spirited dog. Pretty good timing for the furry first-timer!

Despite the impressive performance, the pup did not make the podium. Instead it was Swiss skier Marco Odermatt who claimed the title, bringing him his 6th super-G win and 16th World Cup title.
