Sponsored ContentWhen public data becomes economic intelligence

RTL Today

Meet Tom Haas, Director of STATEC, who shares his vision of a humane, innovative organization committed to continuous modernization.

What observations have you made in your first year at the helm of STATEC?

As soon as I arrived, we began a process of collective reflection to define a vision which can be summed up as follows: Listen, assess and understand the Grand Duchy. We are convinced that public data is a common good, to be developed through the modernization of official statistics. Our mission is to measure to understand the country, and our strengths are rigour and objectivity.

Can you give us a snapshot of the organization?

STATEC is a modern, people-focused public institution — committed, forward-thinking, and constantly innovating. What defines us is the diversity of our professions (data science, communication, economics). We work on households and businesses, as well as on energy, environmental and economic challenges. This diversity creates a stimulating and fulfilling ecosystem.

How do the digital transformation and AI impact your business?

Data is a strategic resource. New perspectives open up in terms of quality, speed and granularity, if we combine private data with public statistics, which are more representative and less biased. The challenge is to automate their production. AI enables us to improve our services, but must be fed by reliable data.

What are the priorities for the coming years?

We have set up a Data Laboratory to boost efficiency in how we manage and leverage data. The aim is to transform data into statistical knowledge, and then into genuine business intelligence. In an interconnected world, a small cause can have big consequences. Our goal is to help everyone make decisions grounded in reliable, insightful information.
