Join the interdisciplinary conversation about trust in organisations and society.

Our societies are facing crises of trust, with increasing public cynicism regarding state institutions, business, the scientific community, NGOs, established news media, and more. This has major practical implications. The Trust & Society Conference in Luxembourg City on 19 and 20 July will connect interdisciplinary researchers with practitioners facing a range of challenges related to this generalised decline in trust.

The Trust & Society Conference will feature insight from leading academics who have studied trust from different perspectives. There will also be input from key decision makers, including Pierre Gramegna, the current European Stability Mechanism managing director, and a former Luxembourg ambassador and finance minister.

Mr Gramegna will give the keynote speech on: "Trust: A Key Factor in Diplomacy and Political Action." The conference's inaugural address will be given by H.E. Virginia Gamba UN Undersecretary General, who will discuss "Confidence Building Engagements and the Children and Armed Conflict Agenda."

A diverse range of cutting-edge academic research will be presented, including a talk on "AI, Employee Vulnerability, and Active Trust Management" by Prof Antoinette Weibel of the University of St. Gallen. Prof Simo Maršić will offer insight into "Building Trust among Youth in Postwar Bosnia and Herzegovina," with Prof Epiphane Kinhoun discussing "The Credibility of Service-Learning Pedagogy in University Education: Toward a Dynamic of Trust between University and Society."

Conclusions of this research for society will be drawn by a panel discussion. The panel will feature several of the earlier speakers, and also practical insight from contributors such as Françoise Thoma, CEO of BCEE, and Marc Crochet, CEO of Caritas Luxembourg. Subsequently, a discussion on "Rebuilding Trust in Leadership and Institutions" will feature Prof Robert Bies of Georgetown University, Prof Laurie Barclay, University of Guelph, and Prof Tom Tripp, Washington State University.

Registration is free-of-charge for both in-person and virtual participation. The main conference will take place at the Luxembourg School of Religion & Society at 52 rue Jules Wilhelm L-2728 Luxembourg City, near Kirchberg. The keynote event featuring Pierre Gramegna will be held at the Luxembourg Stock Exchange on 19 July from 6pm to 8pm.

The event is organised by Trust & Society – The Global Network on Trust, which is a research network connecting scholars of trust with practitioners, institutions, policymakers, religious community leaders, and more. Their goal is communicating the findings of cutting-edge research to the people who can use this insight in their work. This conference is another opportunity to bring people together from different backgrounds to generate fruitful interdisciplinary dialogue.
