A weekend for book and paper lovers

On the weekend of September 6 and 7, 2025, Vianden Castle will celebrate the fascinating world of paper – from its production and creative uses to paper art. Visitors will have the chance to discover different printing techniques within the castle’s historic walls. A special book market will feature valuable and antique works alongside a wide variety of other stalls.

For the occasion, the castle will be decorated with unique paper creations by artist Eliane Lothritz. Musical ambiance will be provided by the ensemble Puritatem in the upper chapel throughout both days.

Highlights on Saturday, September 6, 2025

  • 10:00 am:Dictation in the local dialect – registration: info@castle-vianden.lu
    A première not to be missed! Take part in a short dictation in the Vianden dialect and get the chance to win a nice prize.
  • 2:30 pm: Reading by Jean-Marie Backes – JEM: „Große Kunst und harte Arbeit“
    The book highlights the daily life and history of workers during the construction of the S.E.O. in Vianden and Stolzembourg.
  • 5:00 pm: Reading from « Eis Groussmammen » (Our Grandmothers)
    Four authors present touching stories about the lives of Luxembourgish grandmothers, marked by resilience and strength. Published by the non-profit association Femmes pionnières du Luxembourg.

Highlights on Sunday, September 7, 2025

  • 3:00 pm: Talk by Jeanne Thibo – “2.000 Joer Pabeier” (2,000 years of paper)
    An exciting journey through the history of paper.

An event for the whole family

Vianden Castle will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on both days. Special reduced admission prices apply for the Paper and Book Days: 5 € for adults, free entry for children, teenagers and students.

Vianden can be easily reached by public transport, for example by bus from Ettelbruck station (see mobiliteit.lu).

For visitors arriving by car, parking is available in Vianden. A free shuttle bus will take visitors from the town up to the castle, with stops at Servior Schlassbréck, the train station, Larei, and the Grand-Rue.
