"EpiShuttles" for the protection of highly infectious patients and crews

Special situations, such as the coronavirus pandemic, require special actions. Luxembourg Air Rescue (LAR) has transported a large number of COVID-19 patients in recent weeks. During these operations, it became clear once again how crucial it is to protect patients, medical staff and pilots from infection.

In the interest of our patients and the general public, LAR has decided to invest in special equipment – specifically, two "EpiShuttles", mobile isolation units, which allow the safe and rapid transportation of highly infectious patients. In addition, these isolation wards prevent the infection of those who are on the front line, working to save the sick, such as medical staff and pilots.

For the purchase of these EpiShuttles, their installation, the adaptation of the helicopters and air ambulances and the necessary aeronautical approval, a sum of 250,000€ is required in a very short space of time. This amount was not included in the budget.

Luxembourg Air Rescue is counting on its loyal members and the public at large to provide financial support for this important step forward in the interest of public health.

Specifically trained specialist staff

The organisation has specifically trained specialist staff for the transport of seriously ill and highly infected patients. During these interventions, LAR takes fully advantage of the experience gained in the last thirty years and the more than 50,000 missions they have conducted, especially those during the Ebola crisis of 2015 and other crisis regions.
