It's time to get back to work after the holidays. The ideal time to implement your professional and personal projects and look to the future. Whatever your project, lifelong learning is essential in personal development and meeting the challenges of today's and tomorrow's world.
Close-up on five tips to boost your skills and move forward in your career.
Do I want to make progress within my company? A position with more responsibility? Do I want to learn a new job? Develop my skills in a particular area? Or just give myself a personal challenge and acquire new knowledge?
Defining your goal is the first key stage. It means both taking stock of the skills you already have and looking at your current situation as well as considering your professional motivations and preferences.
On the basis thereof you can then identify any missing skills you still need to acquire through training, or ways of validating your career and experience.
Looking for a training course is an important stage in implementing a professional project that requires the acquisition of new skills.
In this respect, the public platform at lifelong-learning.lu, managed by the INFPC, is available to anyone looking for a training course. Its aim is to make access to training easier for everyone.
lifelong-learning.lu lists the offers of training available in the Grand Duchy: more than 12,000 courses are featured, provided by 300 approved training bodies.
Courses are available as daytime classes, distance learning, outside working hours, etc. Courses may last just a few hours, to gain more thorough knowledge in a particular field, or be spread of several months - this is usually the case for courses leading to a formal qualification.
Anyone wishing to take a course may apply for training support, which may take the form of special paid leave, which includes individual training leave and language leave for learning Luxembourgish.
It may also involve reorganised working hours or specific financial support depending on the nature of the project.
Validation of non-formal and informal learning (VAE) allows professional and personal experience to be recognised with a view to obtaining a qualification.
The first stage consists of identifying the formal qualification that corresponds to your experience and finding out about the procedure to follow for that qualification.
The INFPC offers assistance to individuals regarding any procedures involving training and provides information at several levels:
