Not only is he a legendary movie star, a stellar actor, and owner of a lovely salt-and-pepper beard. Keanu Reeves also just happens to be the bassist of a great band called Dogstar.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1991, Dogstar started as a chance encounter in a supermarket. Keanu Reeves struck up a conversation with drummer Robert Mailhouse over his Red Wings hockey top – and the two were jamming not long thereafter. Lucky bugger.
With Reeves on bass, they were soon joined by lead guitarist Gregg Miller, going from casual garage jam band to concerts to full-on touring. With Bret Dromrose joining on guitar and vocals in 1995, they would release their first studio album, Our Little Visionary, in in 1996.
Gaining momentum – with Reeves' Hollywood stardom helping them gain traction – Dogstar came into their own as a rambunctious alt-rock outfit in their own right.
Despite the members' busy schedules, they managed to release a second record, Happy Endings, in 1999. But although they broke up in 2002, the members would still occasionally meet to jam together in the years and decades after.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Mailhouse, Domrose, and Reeves once again found themselves jamming together frequently – leading to the suggestion of a Dogstar reunion.
They finally performed together for the first time together in May 2023 (after over 20 years) and released a whole new LP, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees, that same year.
Most recently, they released their third album, All In Now, on 29 May 2026 – with a scheduled show in Luxembourg barely even a month later at the Festival de Wiltz on 2 July.
