US EXECUTION LIVESTREAM – The Pentagon wants to broadcast live online the first execution by firing squad in more than 60 years, according to Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. Nidal Hasan, a former army psychiatrist, is due to be shot on 3 December. In 2009 he killed 13 people and wounded 32 at a military base in Texas. President Trump authorised it just days after the botched attempt to execute the murderer Christa Pike, who has survived two lethal injections. She remains in hospital, seriously ill. It is not known whether there will be another attempt.

US MADURO TORTURE CHARGES – The United States have added a torture charge against Venezuela's former president, Nicolás Maduro. He and his wife already face charges of narco-terrorism. Prosecutors say opposition members were severely tortured over a period of 25 years. Maduro has been in a US prison since January, and his trial is due to begin in June.

The 31-year-old, who has just joined his 19th club, Zorya Luhansk in Ukraine, made the comments on a podcast hosted by a former team-mate.
