
POLICE SEARCH – Police in Luxembourg launched a search operation in the Niederkorn area late last night in connection with a suspected robbery. Officers requested that members of the public refrain from offering lifts to strangers while the search was ongoing. A police helicopter was observed operating over the region. Full details of the incident have not been released.
PARLIAMENT SECURITY – Luxembourg’s Chamber of Deputies website is back in service this morning, following several days offline after what officials described as an attempted hacker attack. The site was deliberately taken down on Wednesday as a precautionary measure after Chamber Secretary General Laurent Scheek confirmed what he called an identified security risk. All systems, including the petitions portal, are now fully operational.
EASTER TRAVEL – The strike involving ground staff at Spanish airports is expected to remain an issue throughout the Easter holidays, with passengers experiencing delays on flights to and from Barcelona, Mallorca, Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), Malaga, and Valencia airports. Customers of Luxair and LuxairTours who are affected will be informed directly.
GERMANY ATTACK – A man has been arrested after throwing pyrotechnic devices through the carriages of a high-speed train travelling from Cologne to Frankfurt, injuring several passengers. Armed officers restrained the masked suspect, who was also carrying a knife. Around 180 passengers were evacuated.
IRAN WAR – Despite nearly five weeks of American and Israeli strikes, Iran retains significant military capability, according to US intelligence sources cited by CNN. Around half of its missile launch sites remain operational, along with large drone stockpiles. This appears to contradict White House claims that 90% of Iran’s arsenal has been destroyed.
Israel has reported a new wave of Iranian drones and missiles this morning, with air defences now active. Kuwait, which hosts US military bases, has reported similar incoming fire.
BONDI DISMISSAL – President Trump has dismissed Attorney General Pam Bondi, citing dissatisfaction with her handling of the Epstein files and her pursuit of political opponents. She will be replaced by Todd Blanche, a lawyer who has represented Trump in multiple legal cases.
US TARIFFS – New US tariffs on foreign pharmaceuticals took effect yesterday, with EU products facing an additional 15% levy. Metal goods rich in steel, aluminium, or copper now carry a 25% surcharge.
HOLY WEEK – Pope Leo is leading Good Friday ceremonies in Rome today, including the Stations of the Cross at the Colosseum, where he will carry the cross personally. In Jerusalem, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre has been closed to pilgrims by the Israeli military due to the ongoing conflict with Iran.
MOON MISSION – NASA has confirmed that the four astronauts of the Artemis 2 mission have left Earth’s orbit and are now travelling towards the Moon aboard their Orion capsule. The crew are reported to be in good health. Their flyby will focus on the lunar south pole, the target site for a future crewed landing within the next three years.
FOOTBALL – Second-placed Borussia Dortmund travel to third-placed Stuttgart on Saturday, nine points behind title-bound Bayern Munich. Dortmund have struggled against top sides this season and Stuttgart have won five of their last seven meetings.
Napoli and AC Milan face off on Monday with the title race suddenly alive again, and all of this against the backdrop of Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup. The head of Italy’s football federation (FIGC) Gabriele Gravina has resigned, following a meeting held at the FIGC’s headquarters in Rome on Thursday.
In France, Ligue 1 leaders PSG face Toulouse this evening.
And in the women’s Champions League, Barcelona have swept into the semi-finals after thrashing Real Madrid 6-0 on Thursday (12-2 on aggregate). Alexia Putellas starred on her 500th club appearance at the rebuilt Camp Nou.
Today will bring plenty of cloud, with some fog patches at first and overall very little sunshine – a total of three hours is all we will see throughout the day. It will stay mostly dry but with some rain expected later in the evening. Temperatures start at 2–4 °C this morning, reaching highs of 9–13°C. A light to moderate south-westerly wind is expected, with gusts of around 40 km/h possible towards the evening.
