The 21-year-old died on Saturday night.

The police had been called to the hotel around 4 a.m. due to noise complaints. Eight people were present at the gathering and all tried to hide, a spokesperson of the Antwerpen prosecutor’s office confirmed.

Officials conveyed that the man had tried to escape the scene by jumping from the fourth story of the building.

A psychological support service has been established for employees and clients of the hotel, as well as the seven other people at the party.

In a different neighbourhood of the city, a similar incident took place over the weekend. A woman tried fleeing the police after officers broke up a party of 16 people.

The woman also jumped out of the window, but only injured her shoulder in the process.

In light of coronavirus restrictions, gatherings of more than four people outside of a household are currently prohibited in Belgium.
