According to the city of Trier, a bomb, believed to have originated in the Second World War, was found during construction work near the Mattheiser lake on Monday morning.
The area is currently cordoned off and professional firefighters and police are on site.
The Rheinland-Pfalz Bomb Disposal Service is on its way to investigate the ordnance.
