
The animal had disappeared from the private garden where it was kept. An expert on wolves told AFP that it was likely the kangaroo had been taken by a wolf after they visited the garden and found traces of the predator. A DNA analysis is underway to confirm the theory.
A second kangaroo was also attacked and received a bite to the ear, but is recovering well. The wolf is thought to have forced its way through a wire fence to reach the kangaroos.
It has long been known that at least one wolf is living in the area, after a number of sightings in the last year. An information meeting is planned to take place in February to advise pet owners on how to protect their animals from wolves.
