Illegal waste dumping has become a regular occurrence in some municipalities close to the Luxembourg border. According to local citizen’s association “J’aime ma forêt,” another incident of fly-tipping took place this week in Audun-le-Tiche, close to to the D16 towards Aumetz.

This incident succeeded another recent case of illegal waste dumping which was publicised by the “Hayange en harmonie” association.

Citizen’s initiatives have been multiplying in recent months to fight against the deplorable phenomenon. In Luxembourg, fines for illegal waste dumping remain relatively low: culprits need only shell out between €49 and €250.

Steeper fines in France

Those found guilty of illegal waste dumping in France face a harsher punishment: the National Assembly recently passed a bill setting the fine at €1,500. Officials hope that higher fines will counter the worrying trend.
