PLANE LANDING - Video has emerged of a Cargolux plane in a dramatic aborted landing at Findel Airport on Saturday evening. The cargo plane was scheduled to arrive in Luxembourg from Dubai at around 6:30 p.m. But the aircraft bounced on landing, hitting the runway with its left engine. The pilot was forced to abort the landing and make an additional loop over Luxembourg. The aircraft finally did manage to land a few minutes later, this time without difficulty and no one was injured. A regular Findel photographer captured the moment of the aborted landing, which was later shared on several accounts specializing in aircraft sightings.

ELECTION REGISTRATIONS - You have until 5 o’clock tonight. This is the deadline for non-Luxembourgers to register to vote for the municipal elections on June 11. According to the latest figures, only 16 percent of foreign residents have registered so far.

World

PLANE VERDICT - A Paris court will hand down its verdict in a trial over a plane disaster almost 14 years ago. An Air France Airbus A330 crashed between Rio and Paris. 228 people lost their lives. The airline and plane manufacturer are being sued. Air France is accused of not having trained its pilots well enough. Airbus is said to have underestimated technical problems that could arise. The companies risk only a fine of 225,000 euros.

MACRON ADDRESS - French President Emmanuel Macron will make a televised address this evening for the first time since signing into law his controversial pension reform. Macron signed the legislation early on Saturday, just hours after the change to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 had been validated by the constitutional court. After three months of protests and strikes, the left and unions warned of mass protests on the May 1 Labour Day.

SUDAN FIGHTING - Crisis mediation is underway to de-escalate the armed violence in Sudan after at least 97 people were killed and 365 injured. Violence broke out on Saturday in the capital Khartoum and across the country as armed forces and a paramilitary group clashed. Three UN World Food Programme workers were among those killed in clashes.

SPACEX LAUNCH - SpaceX is counting down to the first test flight of Starship, the most powerful rocket ever built, designed to send astronauts to the moon and later fly to Mars. The giant rocket is scheduled to blast off from Starbase, the SpaceX spaceport in Texas, at 1300 gmt, 1500 our time. Fallback times are scheduled for later in the week if today’s launch attempt is delayed -- something billionaire SpaceX founder Elon Musk said is a distinct possibility.

CYCLING - The Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar has won the prestigious Amstel Gold Race in 6hr 01min 02sec. Luxembourgish cyclist Kevin Geniets came in 16th place. In the women – Dutch rider Demi Vollering came in first place, producing a third major win this season.

FOOTBALL RESULTS - In the Bundesliga - Wolfsburg and Leverkusen drew 0-0, Freiburg won 2-1 against Bremen.

In England, Arsenal and West Ham United drew 2-2. Manchester United beat Nottingham 2-0.

In France, Marseille won 3-1 against Troyes last night. And is again second in the table behind PSG.

SNOOKER - World snooker returns to China this year, including one tournament in Wuhan. The World Snooker Tour will stage the first professional snooker tournament in mainland China in four years with the showpiece Shanghai Masters on September 11-17, followed by the Wuhan Open on October 9-15 and the International Championship in November at a Chinese city yet to be confirmed.Total prize money for three events combined will be more than $2.5 million.

Temperatures have risen from the depths of winter, but it’s not exactly the dream start to the spring.. it’s more of the same today, with clouds and even a bit of rain potentially on the way.Morning temperatures of 5 to 8°C will climb towards highs of 13°C in the afternoon.
