Criticising the South-East Asian country alongside its neighbour Vietnam for their supposed economic cheating, Trump pronounced its name as ‘Thighland’.
In response, the Thai Enquirer, a local English-language news service, changed its own name on Twitter.
Trump was defended by Dinesh D’Souza, a far-right filmmaker and convicted felon who was pardoned by the President in 2018. In a series of tweets, D’Souza claimed that ‘Thighland’ was in fact the correct pronunciation of the term.
