SPEED CAMERA - Make sure to watch out for the new speed camera in Bereldange. It will start flashing for real from today. Located at the entrance to Bereldange, where the speed limit is 50 km/h, the camera measures speed in both directions.

PETROL PRICE - The price of 95-grade petrol has risen again in Luxembourg, confirming the upward trend of recent weeks. It now costs just under €1.66 per litre. That is almost €82 to fill up a 50-litre tank, the highest price seen since November 2022. Unleaded 98 and diesel remain unchanged.

CHARITY BIKE TOUR - Over 42 days and 2,725 kilometres, journalist Michael Merten has cycled from Luxembourg to Kyiv for a ‘Charity Bike Tour’, raising €3,500. Speaking to RTL, Merten, who is used to long adventures and is a cyclist, said this was his most emotional adventure yet. The money will go towards a project, enabling Ukrainian children to go on holiday camps away from the war.

TRUMP INDICTMENT - Prosecutors in the US state of Georgia have charged Donald Trump with trying to overturn the results of the last presidential election. The former president is facing 13 counts, including racketeering, solicitation and violation of oath by a public officer and conspiracy. The indictment document says Trump knowingly and willingly joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in Georgia and elsewhere. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has described the investigation as politically motivated.

HAWAII DEATH TOLL - The number of people known to have died in the horrific wildfire that levelled a Hawaiian town has topped 100. The state governor Josh Green has repeatedly warned that the final count from the last week’s fire in Lahaina -- already the deadliest US wildfire in over a century -- would grow significantly, urging Hawaiians to gird for a number that could be two or three times its present level.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC EXPLOSION - Eleven people have died after an explosion ripped through a small town in the Dominican Republic, with 10 others missing and dozens injured. The blast on Monday shook the commercial area of San Cristobal, less than 30 kilometers from the capital Santo Domingo, sparking a fire that was still burning hours later, and a huge column of smoke. The cause of the explosion has not been determined, nor has its exact origin.

POLAND DEFENCE - Poland biggest military parade since the Cold War took place in Warsaw yesterday, as the NATO-member country flexed its military muscle in what the government hopes is both a message to Moscow and to voters ahead of elections in October.

The Armed Forces Day parade saw 2000 soldiers from Poland and other NATO countries march through the capital, accompanied by 200 items of military equipment and 92 aircraft. The governing party PiS, in power since 2015, has vowed to double the size of the army and spend around 4% of GDP on defence this year.

Neymar - Brazil forward Neymar has signed for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal from Paris Saint-Germain, joining Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema as the latest big name lured to the oil-rich Gulf state. Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona in 2017 for a world record fee of 222 million euros.

Matches today - Staying with football, today is the UEFA Super Cup. Champions League winners Manchester City will face Europa League champions FC Sevilla at 9 o’clock tonight and it’s the 2nd semi-final of the Women’s World Cup today. Australia will face England at 12 noon our time. The winner will face Spain in the final on Sunday.
