ARMED ROBBERY - At around 7pm on Saturday evening, a man broke into a petrol station on Route du Vin in Wormeldange and threatened the clerk with a knife. According to police, the perpetrator entered the station through the backdoor and used it again to escape with the contents of the cash register. The perpetrator is described as being under 30 years old and having a southern appearance. He wore a black hoodie and a face covering. The knife he used had a red handle. Police were unable to locate the offender in a search that immediately followed the incident.

TRAIN TUNNEL OPEN - The Schiebourg tunnel between Kautebach and Wilwerwiltz reopened on Monday morning. 11 months ago the tunnel collapsed following a landslide, and bus replacements had to be set up. However, the tunnel will be closed again between 20 August and 10 September due to maintenance work.

OVERTURNED CAR - One person was left injured after a vehicle flipped onto its roof on the N11 near Waldhaff at around 9.40pm on Sunday.

EUROVISION - The journey towards the Eurovision Song Contest has kicked off in Luxembourg with the start of the first pre-selection casting event held at Rockhal over the weekend. Around 100 singers without original compositions eagerly took the stage to audition before a discerning jury (which included Today Radio’s very own Sam Steen). The first potential candidates are vying for the chance to represent Luxembourg at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.

SPANISH ELECTIONS - Despite polls predicting victory for Spain’s right-wing Popular Party, Sunday’s election resulted in a hung parliament, offering a lifeline to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez who could cling on to power through a jigsaw of alliances. With 99 percent of the ballots counted, the Popular Party won with 136 seats, while the prime minister’s Socialists came second with 122 in the 350-seat parliament -- both far from the 176 seats needed for a governing majority.

GREEK WILD FIRES - An area of 30,000 people had to be evacuated over the weekend as Greek firefighters struggled to contain wild fires on the island of Rhodes. Police said that authorities had transported some 16,000 people across land, with 3,000 evacuated by sea, and others fleeing by road or under their own transport after being told to leave the area.

DRONE STRIKE - Russia said it had neutralised two Ukrainian drones over Moscow in the early hours of Monday, with one crashing close to the defence ministry in the city centre. Officials said the drones struck non-residential buildings in the capital and there were no casualties. The attack came a day after Kyiv vowed to “retaliate” for a Russian missile attack on the Black Sea port of Odesa.

GRETA IN COURT - Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg is set to go on trial on Monday charged with disobeying police at a rally last month, in which activists blocked the port in the city of Malmo. The 20-year-old activist “took part in a demonstration that disrupted traffic” and “refused to obey police orders to leave the site”, according to the charge sheet seen by AFP. She faces a maximum sentence of six months in prison, but prosecutor Charlotte Ottosen told AFP that usually these types of charges result in fines.

TWITTER NO MORE? - Twitter owner Elon Musk and the chief executive he brought onboard just a month ago say the social media network will ditch their familiar bird logo, rebrand the platform with the name ‘X’ and move quickly into payments, banking and commerce. Since Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion last October, the platform’s advertising business has partially collapsed as marketers soured on the mass firings at the platform - as well taking issue with Musk’s management style.

VERSTAPPEN DOMINANCE - In F1, defending double world champion and runaway leader of this year’s title race Max Verstappen cruised to a majestic victory in Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix, where he came home 33.7 seconds clear of Lando Norris of McLaren. BRITISH OPEN - In Golf, American Brian Harman won the British Open by six shots on Sunday, finishing 13 under par to claim his first major title at a rainswept Hoylake. Masters champion Jon Rahm tied for second alongside Austria’s Sepp Straka, Australian Jason Day and South Korean Tom Kim.

HURLING - And in the All Ireland final Limerick produced the perfect second half to overhaul Kilkenny and take their place in the record books with a fourth consecutive championship victory, with the game finishing 2-15 to 30 points.
