According to the interfederal spokesperson for the fight against the coronavirus, Yves Van Laethem, there are three main points to remember about the South African variant for the moment.
The first concerns its capacity for propagation. “One, it is transmitted more frequently than the old virus that we all know well, so to speak. A bit like the English variant,” said the spokesperson.
Second element: Yves Van Laethem indicated that “there is no proof that it is more virulent, more aggressive”.
“Three, we know that it requires a little more effort from our immunity, including that which is induced by vaccination, for it to be destroyed, neutralized. But we know that current messenger RNA vaccines work on this type of virus, ”concluded the interfederal spokesperson.
