Anyone who wishes to enter Austria needs to register their personal information with the border patrol, as ordered by the Austrian government. This also applies to those travelling through the country.
As a result, vehicles waited up to ten hours to pass through the Karawanks Tunnel, while passengers in the Loibl Tunnel had to wait up to seven. Mostly Dutch and German tourists were affected, and many have filed a complaint with local authorities.
The Karawanks Tunnel reportedly has relaxed in terms of traffic, while authorities still expect a few hours of waiting to cross the Austrian border via the Loibl crossing.
