News of the incident circulated online after images showed an SUV lodged in an incomprehensible position on a pedestrian bridge in Mulhouse.
According to the Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace, the driver had apparently hurtled down the stairs after taking a wrong turn coming off the main road nearby.
Lightly wounded, the driver was unable to explain how he had ended up in that position, and was taken to hospital for tests.
Police and emergency services attended the scene on Friday afternoon, with the car eventually being taken away with the help of a breakdown company.
