
Torn roofs, broken windows, fallen trees and electricity poles... in the Walloon municipality of Beauraing, authorities have recorded damages on 93 houses, out of which ten are now considered inhabitable.
17 people suffered minor injuries. Thirteen of them were sitting on a terrace when the tornado hit the town. Witnesses described the events as “apocalyptic”.
The commune Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil was most affected by the storms. A tornado tore off the tip of the local church tower. Nobody was injured by the debris.
Across large parts of France, meteorological services issued warnings due to the severity of the storms. According to local media reports, several thousand households were without power, roads were flooded, and trees fallen over.
In the Netherlands, the storms already caused havoc on Friday. In Utrecht, six houses were damaged to the point that they have become inhabitable. Nine people were injured in the process. Furthermore, in the region of the national park “Utrechtse Heuvelrug”, thousands of trees broke because of the storm.
