As the Lorraine region was affected by the recent riots gripping France in the wake of a teenager’s death at the hands of a police officer, businesses in Metz hope to turn the page thanks to a one-off Sunday opening.

The Moselle prefecture has authorised stores to stay open on Sunday 9 July in order to make up for the early closures during the riots, which saw several shops damaged by protesters.

Shops will be able to catch up on Sunday, with a limit of up to ten hours.

This weekend happens to coincide with the launch of summer sales throughout the Greater Region. The sales, which initially started on 28 June in France, have been extended for another week following the protests.
