A 300-metre exclusion zone will be established and residents evacuated as bomb disposal teams prepare to defuse seven American aircraft bombs discovered on a construction site in Bitburg, Germany.

Seven bombs dating from the Second World War were uncovered on a construction site in the Auf Burghöhe/Auf Messenhöhe district of Bitburg in Germany on Wednesday 13 May. The Bitburg municipality and the relevant authorities have confirmed that the devices will be defused on Sunday morning.

A exclusion zone with a radius of 300 metres has been established around the site, and all residents within that zone will be evacuated before 9am on Sunday. Defusing work is scheduled to begin at 11am.

According to the Volksfreund, the bombs are of two different types: one is a 125kg American bomb, while the remaining six are 30kg US bombs, all dropped during the Second World War.
