Starting with Luxembourg:

  • Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean Asselborn stated upon enquiry that it was “very likely” that Luxembourgish residents would be allowed to go shopping in Belgium again as of next week.
  • The coronavirus hotline has received 66,000 calls to date, in addition to approximately 2,900 calls to 112 linked to COVID-19 since the start of the crisis.
  • And finally, 708 doctors and dentists who were on stand-by duty during the past weeks are to be paid on Monday, confirmed CNS.

  • An Angolan soldier shot and killed a teenager during an operation to enforce face-mask wearing to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The home affairs ministry said a 17-year-old boy “was a victim of a gunshot” fired by a soldier on Friday while “allegedly” protesting against a military-led awareness campaign on the use of face masks.

  • Angered by a slew of lockdown measures, purported vaccine plans or alleged state surveillance, thousands took to the streets on Saturday in Germany in a growing wave of demonstrations that has alarmed even Chancellor Angela Merkel.
  • Russia on Saturday recorded its highest daily death toll yet from the coronavirus while new cases fell to the lowest level in two weeks. Russia is in second place in the world to the United States with 272,043 cases, with 9,200 new cases announced Saturday, the lowest number since May 2.

  • The United States recorded 1,680 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing its grim total to 87,493, according to the latest real-time tally Friday reported by Johns Hopkins University.
