    • [block type="summary”]The novel coronavirus has killed at least 916,372 people since the outbreak emerged in China last December, according to a tally from official sources compiled by AFP at 1100 GMT on Saturday. At least 28,534,330 cases of coronavirus have been registered. Of these, at least 19,016,500 people are now considered recovered.

      • Pfizer and BioNTech have proposed an expansion of their medical trials in the US to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), seeking to include just shy of 45,000 people in the third phase of their trials.
      • In England, hospitals are now preparing for a second wave by running stress tests to ensure that their wards are as prepared as possible for a second wave. This in light of the number of admissions starting to climb, a sign that a second wave may indeed be underway.
      • India, which recently overtook Brazil as the country second-hardest hit by Coronavirus (after the USA), is experiencing a partial scarcity of oxygen with the number of patients in critical care soaring.

        This news comes after a record rise of over 95,500 new infections recorded today. To date, around 78,000 people have died of the novel coronavirus in India, the third-highest death toll in the world.

      • French Prime Minister Jean Castex will leave self-isolation today, after being tested negative for the novel coronavirus. He went into self-isolation after sharing a car last week with the director of Tour de France, Christian Prudhomme, who had subsequently tested positive for the virus.
