    • After reporting their second highest daily infection rates since the pandemic began on Friday, France reported 5,453 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Saturday (down from 7,379).
    • Belgian authorities have announced that around 50,000 holidaymakers have returned to the country since the beginning of August from countries labelled red zones due to high coronavirus rates.
    • In response to sharply rising infection rates among university students in the U.S., many college towns have been forced to close bars and reimpose mask mandates just weeks into the fall term.
    • Covid-19 has killed at least 838,271 people since the outbreak emerged in China last December. At least 24,795,760 cases have been registered, 15,976,700 of which are now considered recovered.
