The two men in question were stopped by the police on Sunday evening at Stansted airport after security forces had been alerted to a suspicious package in the lavatories of the plane: “The investigation concluded that the object was insignificant and that none of the detainees should be considered a terrorist threat.”

According to a Ryanair spokesperson, the plane staff was alerted to a potential terrorist threat on board.

Out of precaution, the British Royal Air Force deployed two “Typhoon” fighter jets to safely escort the civil plane to the airport.
