France - flash floodsReims partially flooded following massive rain falls

RTL Today
The French city struggled to cope with the water masses on Monday evening.

Images and videos on social media were similar to those taken in Differdange at the beginning of June. However, in Reims, the streets were at times filled with water to the point that cars were actually swept away.

The municipality talks of an “extraordinary situation” and has not yet been able to make a full assessment of the damages. Emergency services recommended that people stay home for the duration of the rain showers. They received more than 100 calls in the first few hours.

Avenue Jena Jaurés was the street most severely affected by the flooding, and people trapped in their cars had to be rescued. Furthermore, the roof of the city archive building may collapse. For locals living in this particular street, it was the third incident of flooding within as many weeks.

The mayor of Reims has already set up a meeting with concerned citizens.
