
CANNABIS LEGALISATION - It’s official: Luxembourg has legalised the cultivation and consumption of cannabis at home. Up to four plants can be cultivated as long as they are grown from seed and they must not be visible from public spaces. So, no cannabis planters on balconies or window sills. It remains prohibited for minors.
LUXEMBOURG EUROVISION - After an absence of nearly three decades, Luxembourg is gearing up for its grand return to the Eurovision Song Contest. Prime Minister Xavier Bettel shed light on the process for selecting Luxembourg’s candidate, which will be unveiled on 3 July. The government has indicated that the candidate must have “a Luxembourgish cultural background,” which implies that international candidates may also be considered.
BODY FOUND - A body discovered in a forest near Howald has prompted a police investigation to discovery the identity and cause of death of the deceased man.
LUXAIR LJUBLJANA - Luxair has announced it’s going to launch direct flights to Ljubljana from the 14th of September. Round-trip flights will depart and arrive at Findel Airport on Thursday lunchtimes and Sunday mornings. Sales are due to open on Wednesday 28 June, with a special offer available until 14 July.

FRANCE PROTESTS - Protests over the killing of a teenage boy by French police have escalated with numerous clashes between demonstrators and officers across the suburbs of Paris. The most violent confrontations were in Nanterre, where the 17-year-old was shot dead at point blank range on Tuesday.
EU SUMMIT - An EU summit is taking place in Brussels today and tomorrow. The war in Ukraine remains high on the agenda, just days after the Wagner group’s short-lived revolt in Russia. Since the start of the war, the EU and its member states have made over 77 billion euros available to Ukraine. Other hot-button issues to be discussed include European defence, relations with China and immigration.
MADONNA ILL - Madonna is receiving medical treatment after a few days in intensive care with a serious bacterial infection. In a statement her manager said her upcoming tour, which was meant to begin next month in Canada will be rescheduled. He said the 64-year-old’s health was improving and she is expected to make a full recovery.
TITAN REMAINS - Presumed human remains were among the debris and evidence recovered from the seafloor where the Titan submersible remnants were found. The US Coast Guard said the presumed remains will be analysed by US medical professionals. The announcement comes nearly a week after authorities determined the vessel had imploded in the North Atlantic, killing all five men aboard.
FOOTBALL SIGNING - Arsenal has signed German attacking midfielder Kai Havertz from Chelsea on a “long-term contract”.Neither club disclosed a fee but British media said Arsenal were paying Chelsea over 75 million euros. He is Arsenal’s first signing of the summer.
GYMNASTICS BILES - Gymnastics superstar Simone Biles is poised to compete in August for the first time since mental health and safety concerns cut short her Tokyo Olympics campaign. USA Gymnastics announced that the four-time Olympic gold medallist was entered the August US Classic. Biles entered the Covid-delayed Tokyo Olympics in 2021 as a heavy favorite to win as many as five gold medals.
FORMULA 1 VERSTAPPEN - Runaway leader and defending double world champion Max Verstappen is bidding to become the most successful driver in Austrian Grand Prix history this weekend as Red Bull plan a ‘century’ celebration on home ground. Another win at the Red Bull Ring circuit would take Verstappen to four Austrian wins and be his seventh in nine races this year as well as the team’s 101st as they return to Austria for the first time since the death of owner Dietrich Mateschitz last October.
