A production unit at the Cattenom nuclear power plant was disconnected from the grid on Monday evening following a malfunction. The decision to disconnect production unit no. 3 from the electricity grid was taken at around 6pm “in accordance with our procedures”, according to a press release issued by French multinational electric utility company EDF.
The malfunction is said to have affected an electrical switchboard “outside the nuclear zone”. Checks and interventions have since been underway to reconnect the generating unit to the grid in complete safety.
At present, two production units (no. 2 and 4) are still operative. Production unit no. 1 has been shut down for scheduled maintenance since last May.
