To the surprise of the press, and a silent Dr Deborah Brix who coordinates the coronavirus task force response, Trump suggested two solutions to killing the virus in patients.
One was to use UV light: “Supposing we hit the with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you’ve said that hasn’t been checked and you’re going to test it, and then I said “supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you’re going to test that too?”
That wasn’t the most controversial of his radical ideas, however, followed as it was by the following suggestion: “And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute, and is there a way we can do something like that? By injection inside, or, almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that. So you’re going to have to use medical doctors, right? But it sounds, it sounds interesting to me.”
Later in the conference, Trump noted again that he would like the taskforce to see whether you can apply light and heat to cure patients of the coronavirus. He noted that “I’m not a doctor, but I’m like a person that has a good.. you know what.”
Several doctors have warned the public against trying these solutions, noting that they could be extremely dangerous - not least injecting yourself with disinfectant.
