A 9-year-old boy was fatally struck by a police vehicle in Antwerp on Wednesday morning as officers responded to an emergency call. The incident occurred around 9.45 am on Provinciestraat, near a school.
Emergency crews tried to resuscitate the boy, but he died at the scene.
Police confirmed the patrol was en route to an intervention with sirens and lights activated. A second police vehicle from the railway unit was also heading to the same location.
The exact circumstances of the accident remain unclear. Authorities have not confirmed whether the boy was crossing at a pedestrian crossing. The Minos police zone is conducting an investigation to determine what happened.
This incident comes shortly after another fatal collision involving a police vehicle in Brussels, where a child riding a scooter was struck and killed. In that case, the officer was charged.
