With this milestone, Lorraine has 1,008 coronavirus-related deaths, 23 more than on Thursday, according to the latest figures released by the French government.

The Moselle now records 549 deaths, the Meurthe-et-Moselle 207, the Meuse 63 and the Vosges 189.

Lorraine is approaching the grim death toll total in Alsace, a hard-hit region and regarded as the French coronavirus epicenter, which stands at 1,042 deaths.

Nevertheless, the Greater East Regional Health Agency observes “a decline in the number of new hospitalizations, new admissions to intensive care and deaths in health facilities, for the first time since the beginning of the epidemic.”

These developments reflect a slowdown in the circulation of the virus in the region as a result of measures of social distancing.
