It’s the modern love story. Well, almost. Massachusetts woman meets man on online dating app. They agree to go on a first date. Nothing unusual - until she became the unexpected getaway driver after he robbed a bank on their date.
The unnamed woman reportedly picked up Christopher Castillo from his parents’ home in Rhode Island in 2016. They then drove for about 30 minutes. They eventually passed a bank and Castillo asked her to pull over. He got out of the vehicle and disappeared for a couple of minutes. He then came back running to the car, wearing sunglasses, a hat, and holding a gun as well as $1,000 cash in hand. He forced her to start the engine and drive away. The woman later told police that she “panicked” and consequently obeyed his order.
Police managed to locate the car shortly later and the woman pulled over. Castillo was subdued and handcuffed.
He guilty guilty to armed robbery and three counts of assault and battery on a police officer earlier this week. He was sentenced to three years in prison plus two years in a corrections facility. The woman wasn’t charged.
