On 10 August, the health agency of the Grand Est region (ARS) reported the first death of a patient living in the “Les Sablons” facility. Since that day, eight further residents of the nursing home have died due to the coronavirus, most of them being above the age of 90 and suffering from other medical conditions, Cilla emphasised.
Since the first patient tested positive on 3 August, a total of 360 tests were executed to trace further infections. There are currently about 60 employees working at “Les Sablons”, who care for the around 75 residents living in the institution.
Cilla plans on launching an appeal via a local radio station to reinforce the staff for the coming weeks. Since the first case was discovered, all residents have been confined to their rooms and the staff was divided into two groups, one caring only for corona patients.
All visits have been prohibited until further notice. Cilla noted that their had already been violations of that rule and warned that the virus could come from any source.
ARS noted that before August, the institution had not reported a single case of Covid-19 among staff or residents.
