The French Interior Ministry issued a new certificate online overnight on Monday, which will be obligatory for those who wish to travel outside their department of residence, or 100 kilometres from their home.

Trips such as these will only be authorised in seven specific cases, which are listed on the form.

Reasons for the trips include professional travel, travel to a school, urgent medical emergencies, compelling reasons, legal cases, to a police station or trips considered in the general interest.

Trips within a resident’s department, which do not exceed a distance of 100 kilometres, do not require a certificate.

Cross-border workers who need to cross into Luxembourg, Belgium or Germany are all still in need of a certificate.
