In Luxembourg
- Luxembourg has recorded another 6 infections, bringing the total count to 3,729. The death toll remained the same. Only 99 tests were done in the last 24 hours. Complete figures and graphs here.
In international news
New York, which has ground to a halt to stop the coronavirus pandemic, may start reopening manufacturing and construction after May 15, Governor Andrew Cuomo said Sunday.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Monday claimed New Zealand had scored a significant victory against the spread of the coronavirus, as the country began a phased exit from lockdown. “There is no widespread, undetected community transmission in New Zealand,” Ardern declared. “We have won that battle.”
- Schools, kindergartens and universities will remain closed in Romania for the rest of the academic year. The same was announced for Italy on Sunday.
- Germany made wearing masks on public transport and in most shops mandatory on Monday, even offering them in vending machines. Furthermore, the crisis could have cost Germany’s tourism branch 24 billion euros in the months of March and April.
- More than 150 Italian doctors have died since February, the FNOMCeO health association said Monday.
- UK said virus death toll rose by 360 to 21,092. Spain reported 331 new virus deaths in 24 hours.
- And finally, the World Health Organization‘s director-general said Monday that the agency had sounded the highest level of alarm over coronavirus early on, but lamented that not all countries had heeded its advice.
