On 3 March, a man called Jeffrey, 27, was spotted by French police after having committed multiple offenses in the Nancy area. Despite Jeffrey managing to escape the officers, police stationed themselves close to his home.
At 11pm, Jeffrey appeared behind the wheel of a Jeep Cherokee, which he had purchased only 48 hours earlier. When the police flashed their lights, he raced off.
At 200 km/h, Jeffrey sped down the A31 near Pont-à-Mousson. He then loses control near Metz, crashing into a bridge. Police would later find out that he had drunk four whiskeys at his father’s house, resulting in 1.05 g/dl of alcohol in his blood.
Despite walking away unharmed, his troubles had just begun. In court, the magistrates discovered his drunk driving past, with 16 criminal offenses in total. The worst occurred in 2010, when two teenage girls aged 16 and 17 were killed in a car accident - Jeffrey had been the driver. He was charged with manslaughter.
The verdict was clear: 18-month prison sentence and a temporary driving ban of two years.
