The 60-year-old Frenchman suffered a veritable nightmare.

The specimen was a brown recluse spider, which bit the man while he was asleep in his home in Saint-Nicolas-de-Port. According to local news outlets, he suddenly woke due to a combination of insufferable pain, a swollen arm, and signs of necrosis.

He was subsequently rushed to the hospital, where he needed to endure several operations that kept him in the institution for an entire month.

L’Est Républicain noted that the spider in question is native to the Unites States and had appeared in France several years ago. A few incidents of spider bites have occurred since, with two more severe cases this summer.
