
Footage of the incident was posted to Twitter and caused widespread outrage on social media amidst coronavirus fears. Police investigated the incident but said it could not be considered criminal since intent could not be proven.
The man, who has not been identified, later issued a formal apology via his lawyer. He explained that the unsavoury act was due to “a momentary fit of anger” over an ongoing dispute with the strata council at the building.
“I am horrified at my own actions which are reprehensible and inexcusable,” the statement reads.
“I am employed, have never had any issues with law enforcement and am otherwise a good, law-abiding citizen. I can’t explain my own actions in this situation.”
He stressed that he has “no coronavirus symptoms” and that he “never intended to harm anyone.”
